Powell Lacrosse and Rhino Lacrosse Announce Merger, More Opportunities for Young Athletes
Portland, Ore. – February 10, 2009 – Professional lacrosse player and Syracuse University legend Ryan Powell is merging his two Portland-based lacrosse instructional companies under the Rhino Lacrosse name. The combination of Powell Lacrosse and Rhino Lacrosse offers today’s young athletes the best in camps, clinics, leagues, travel select teams and training. The goal of the merger is to keep each company’s instructional programs exactly the same, while providing one brand name under which the programs can operate. Powell Lacrosse campers and Rhino Lacrosse participants alike will have the same experience of excellence, just now under the Rhino Lacrosse name.
“My vision for these companies is to grow young athletes’ passion for the game, and give every lacrosse player the tools they need to bring their game to the next level,” Powell said. “By combining Rhino and Powell Lacrosse, we can offer players access to the best instruction in a variety of environments and at all skill levels.”
Powell started Rhino Lacrosse in 2005 as a way to offer young people in Portland access to clinics and leagues taught by world-class lacrosse players and instructors. He began Powell Lacrosse – a series of lacrosse summer camps taught in Oregon, California and Texas for kids aged 8-18 – in 2007 after years of operating camps with his brothers.
Rhino Lacrosse will now have a new look as part of the merger. Visitors to rhinolacrosse.com will notice a new logo that incorporates a rhino’s head into the name, and “Recharged by Ryan Powell #22” below the name to help new and previous Powell Lacrosse camp participants realize Ryan Powell is still behind their favorite programs. Rhino is a nickname Powell earned thanks to his tough, strong, roll-over-opponents playing style. For more information, please visit www.rhinolacrosse.com

Canby Lacrosse Seeking HS Coaches: Canby High School's reputation as an outstanding school for athletic success is expanding into lacrosse. After two very successful years of lacrosse in Canby, our HS program is expanding to probably include two levels of JV teams. We are planning to jump up to full Varsity level for the spring of 2010 season. We are seeking individuals with experience coaching or playing lacrosse who can help take our program to these next levels. This is a great opportunity to grow with the program. As the program continues its rapid growth, a coach already on staff could become the Varsity coach. For the right experienced individuals, there is the potential for some nominal payment from our community-based organization until the program is brought under the auspices of OSAA and Canby High School. Interested individuals should contact Curtis Nelson (503-263-2059 or nelsonc@web-ster.com
